effects: the most famous technological event of 2023 and strengthening the position of IDEAS NCBR in the public debate

How we promoted Polish research on AI by organizing a media event with the participation of Sam Altman from OpenAI and prof. Piotr Sankowski?

In May 2023, IDEAS NCBR, a research and development center specializing in artificial intelligence, quickly organized an open meeting at the University of Warsaw with the participation of Sam Altman, Szymon Sidor and Wojciech Zaremba from OpenAI. Profeina's task was not only to publicize the event itself, but above all to strategically strengthen the recognition of IDEAS as an institution co-creating the debate on AI.

The challenge: to show the institute, not just a global star

The presence of OpenAI's CEO automatically generated huge media interest. However, the risk was obvious: the event could only be remembered as "Sam Altman's visit to Poland." The aim of the PR activities was to shift the center of gravity - so that the role of IDEAS NCBR as the organizer and substantive partner of the debate on the future of AI was clearly visible in media coverage.

Insight: Polish contribution to the development of OpenAI

The narrative foundation of communication was the fact that Poles played a significant role in the development of OpenAI and large language models. Among the first approximately 50 employees of OpenAI, as many as 10 people were Poles. Prof. Piotr Sankowski, then president of IDEAS, for months consistently emphasized the influence of Polish universities, programmers and researchers on the development of global AI. Profeina's task was to strengthen this message by including this thread in conversations, publications and media reports to place the event in a broader context: Poland as a co-creator, not just a recipient of the technological revolution.

PR activities

1. Comprehensive media support for the event

Inviting key journalists and opinion leaders, coordinating accreditation, preparing press releases and ongoing media support on the day of the event.

2. Arranging interviews and meetings
In cooperation with the IDEAS and OpenAI PR team, we arranged meetings of Sam Altman and Szymon Sidor with selected Polish media, ensuring that the conversations included the Polish contribution to the development of AI.

3. Strengthening the substantive credibility of the event
We invited Sylwia Czubkowska, one of the most recognizable technology journalists in Poland, known for her critical approach to big tech, to conduct a conversation with the creators of OpenAI. This emphasized the importance of the event and its substantive nature.

Effects: strengthening the institute's position in the AI debate

Thanks to the strategic approach to media relations, IDEAS NCBR has strengthened its position as an institute that not only conducts advanced research on AI, but is able to initiate and co-create debate at a global level.
